Timberwolves Strike First in Playoff Series Against Suns
Edwards Explodes for 30 Points in Game 1 Victory
Target Center Erupts as Wolves Take Home Court Advantage
PHOENIX, Ariz. - For the Minnesota Timberwolves, the pressure was immense entering Game 1 of their playoff series against the Phoenix Suns. After facing three thorough beatings during the regular season, the Wolves knew they needed a strong start on the road.
And they delivered in emphatic fashion, securing a 120-95 victory in front of a raucous crowd at the Target Center.
Anthony Edwards was the catalyst for the Wolves, erupting for a game-high 30 points while shooting an efficient 11-of-19 from the field. The electric young guard also grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.
The Timberwolves received contributions from all over the roster, with D'Angelo Russell adding 21 points, Karl-Anthony Towns contributing 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Jaden McDaniels chipping in with 15 points.
The Suns, who entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, struggled to find their rhythm throughout the game. Devin Booker led the team with 21 points, but shot just 7-of-22 from the field. Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton were also held in check, combining for 33 points on 12-of-30 shooting.
The Wolves' defense was relentless, forcing 17 turnovers and holding the Suns to just 41.1% shooting from the field. Rudy Gobert anchored the defense, finishing with 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.
With the victory, the Timberwolves take a 1-0 lead in the series. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, at the Target Center.
