Argentine Presidential Candidate Horacio Rodriguez Larreta to Cut Spending

Buenos Aires Mayor Vows to Reduce Government Outlay if Elected

Centrist Politician Favored in Santa Fe Primary Election

BUENOS AIRES, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, the mayor of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, has vowed to cut government spending if elected president in October's general election.

Larreta, a centrist politician, is the frontrunner in the race to become the candidate for the Juntos por el Cambio coalition, which is the main opposition to the ruling Peronist party. He has already won the primary election in the key province of Santa Fe, which is seen as a positive sign for his chances in the general election.

In a speech on Wednesday, Larreta said that he would reduce the size of the government, cut taxes, and promote economic growth if he becomes president. He argued that the current government's policies have led to high inflation and a stagnant economy.

"We need to change course," Larreta said. "We need to reduce the size of the state, cut taxes, and promote economic growth. This is the only way to create a more prosperous and just Argentina."

Larreta's proposals have been welcomed by some economists, who believe that they could help to reduce Argentina's fiscal deficit and boost economic growth. However, others have expressed concern that cutting government spending could lead to job losses and reduced social services.

The general election is scheduled to be held on October 22. Larreta is considered to be the frontrunner, but he faces a challenge from Patricia Bullrich, a more conservative politician who is also seeking the Juntos por el Cambio nomination.
