Afterlife Movie Explained
What is Afterlife?
Afterlife is a 2023 horror film directed by Ari Aster and starring Toni Collette, Milly Shapiro, and Alex Wolff. The film follows a family who moves into a haunted house and soon finds themselves being terrorized by supernatural forces.
The Plot of Afterlife
The film begins with the Graham family moving into a new house in the countryside. The family consists of Annie (Toni Collette), a therapist; Steve (Gabriel Byrne), her husband; and their two children, Charlie (Milly Shapiro) and Peter (Alex Wolff). The house is an old Victorian mansion that has been in the family for generations.
Soon after moving in, the Grahams begin to experience strange and frightening occurrences. They hear noises in the night, objects move on their own, and they see ghostly apparitions.
Annie is particularly affected by the supernatural activity. She begins to have nightmares and visions, and she becomes increasingly withdrawn and depressed. Steve, on the other hand, is more skeptical and tries to rationalize what is happening.
As the supernatural activity intensifies, the Grahams become more and more terrified. They try to get help from a priest, but he is unable to stop the haunting.
In a desperate attempt to save their family, Annie and Steve turn to a psychic. The psychic tells them that the house is haunted by the ghosts of a family who died there many years ago.
The Grahams learn that the ghosts are angry and vengeful, and that they will not rest until they have driven the Grahams out of their home.
The Ending of Afterlife
The film ends with the Grahams fleeing the house and leaving it behind. The ghosts are finally at peace, and the Grahams are able to start a new life.
The Meaning of Afterlife
Afterlife is a film about the power of grief and the importance of letting go.
The Grahams are haunted by the ghosts of their past, and they are unable to move on until they are able to let go of their grief.
